The Northcliff resident’s subjects included accounting, business studies, economics, life orientation, mathematics, mathematics paper 3, Afrikaans home language, English home language, advanced programme mathematics and information technology.
He scored 90 percent and above in seven of these and is on the list of the IEB’s top 65 outstanding achievers nationally. Chris plans to study actuarial science at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and MBA at Harvard.
His tenacity to succeed also showed on the tennis court. In Grade 8 Chris took up tennis but failed to make inroads. He persevered though and in matric captained Helpmekaar’s first tennis team. He was also invited to attend the Gauteng Junior Provincial Tennis training squad in 2010. In addition Chris has represented South Africa at the Youth World Chess Championship.
His other hobbies include surfing, computer programming and reading autobiographies. “I want to own companies – like Donald Trump – just bigger! Not only for myself, but to help other people as well. I want to make the world around me a better place,” he said.
“I really enjoyed school and my wonderful supportive teachers and headmaster. But now I am looking forward to my studies at UCT.”
Chris’s father (also Chris) is a chartered accountant and his mother Ciska has studied mathematics. His younger brother Marco is in Grade 8 this year.
